Tele-Medical Assistance Service (TMAS) cover required during British Airline Pilots Association (BALPA) strike periods is as per original contract requirements. BALPA strike action, resulting in reduced or non-existent rescue helicopter provision would mean other SAR assets such as lifeboats and Coastguard Rescue Teams may have to deal with casualty care/medical issues afloat or ashore which is beyond their training and competence. TMAS advice would support such situations until a Healthcare professional can access the casualty. A 6 month arrangement is required to be put in place to mitigate this risk during strike periods. Both parties however reserve the right to extend this requirement by a further 6 months subject to agreement
