Supply of cattle Sensors suitable for outdoor use with a verified >95% accurate step count and lying time data - As part of a collaborative research project Rothamsted Research at it's North Wyke site in Devon requires the supply of cattle sensors suitable for outdoor use with a verified >95% accurate step count and lying time data for use with its livestock within the Cell Grazing project. Both the sensor hardware, and monitoring software are required within this contract. Agri-tech Cornwall is a 3 year £10m initiative to increase Research Development and Innovation in the Agri-tech sector across Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly. Part-funded by the European Regional Development Fund, the project is led by the Duchy College Rural Business School in partnership with leading research institutions - the Universities of Exeter and Plymouth and Rothamsted Research, as well as the Cornwall Development Company. For more information about the project please visit the website www.agritechcornwall.co.uk Rothamsted Research with our unique research operation at North Wyke aims to develop solutions for resilient grassland farming and associated food chains. As part of one of our collaborative research programmes we are researching the effects of cell/mob grazing versus traditional continuous grazing in order to understand the wider impacts on animal health, welfare, product quality, environmental impact and cost benefit analysis. This cell/mob grazing management method is an innovative system that will be tested under experimental conditions against a control (continuous grazing system). This method has shown increased pasture and land productivity in beef and sheep systems, and now the animal health & welfare along with environmental impact will also be assessed under controlled conditions. Within our Cell Grazing project we need to accurately monitor the health and wellbeing of the livestock both in the control continuous grazing herd and the cell/mob grazing study herd. In order to do this we need highly reliable outdoor animal sensors collecting comparable data sets. As part of this project we are inviting your organisation to respond in providing a quotation for the following specification: WP1 - Supply of livestock sensors Animal sensors suitable for outdoor use for 42 weaned dairyxbeef calves Sensors to have a verified >95% accurate step count Sensors to have a verified >95% accurate lying time data Sensors able to store data for an extended period of time before download (> 6 days) Testing and commissioning customer support provision WP2 - Supply of monitoring hardware and software Self-contained mobile sensor reader which provides a wireless data download solution for outdoor data collection Single software tool to manage the data and to view and export data into report formats. Testing and commissioning customer support provision Supply to: Rothamsted Research North Wyke Okehampton Devon EX20 2SB The sensors would need to be supplied by the 31st July 2018. If you have any technical questions regarding the sensor requirements please contact: Dr Sarah Mor

UK SBS SSAPS180010 Orbital Analysis technical advice to UK EU Space Surveillance & Tracking programme - A technical service provider is needed to give expert technical advice on behalf of the UK Space Agency to the EU Space Surveillance & Tracking programme. The service provider needs to have a thorough understanding of: orbital tracking methodology; the different sensor systems and relevant software packages supporting those systems; the strengths & weaknesses of each sensor category as well as the individual sensors being used by the UK and those being used by other EU members (including those outside the current Consortium of 5 Member States) system; and how they can be utililised to provide a detection capability both at the UK national and EU level.

UK SBS OXY-10 SMA - Negotiated procedure without prior publication. Previously Ocean Biogeochemistry and Ecosystems (OBE) purchased one of these 10 channel optodes to see if the device can meet the requirements for the LOCATE project. After 4 months of test it has been decided to purchase 3 more system to use with the incubation devices being built by Ocean Technology and Engineering Group (OTEG) National Oceanography Centre (NOC). OTEG have been commissioned by OBE to build three complete incubation system looking at three distinct incubations - respiration, photolysis and primary production using oxygen as a proxy. In order to make these measurements each incubation needs to be carried out in triplicates and oxygen levels need to be monitored every 30-60 min for a 2 week period. To make the required level of Oxygen measurements a 10 channel system is required. A single optode system would not be fit for purpose since the experiments would them require 24 hour attention for 2 week on end. This is the only product on the market with 10 optodes per unit. The optodes will be used in the OTEG designed incubation units to meet the needs of the LOCATE project. NOC need a minimum of a 10 channel as we have 3 types of incubations and each incubation is in triplicates, and blanks will have to be measured once a day The negotiated procedure without prior publication may be used for public works contracts, public supply contracts and public service contracts in any of the following cases:- where the works, supplies or services can be supplied only by a particular economic operator for any of the following reasons:- (ii) competition is absent for technical reasons,

UK SBS Single Board Camera Development - STFC have a long running project in the design and production of sensors for Imaging Time-of-Flight Mass Spectrometry (ToF-MS). In ToF-MS, a sample is ionised and its constituent parts accelerated to hit a detector. The time of flight of each corresponds to its mass. In the PImMS (Pixel Imagin Mass Spectrometry) detector, an image at each time segment is also possible. This allows even more information to be derived, such as the structure of the original molecule. STFC designed the PImMS sensor, and bought a camera for it from Aspect Systems along with our partners at Oxford University. The IP in this camera (including the schematics, design and FPGA firmware) belongs to Aspect Systems. Recently, it has been decided to request an updated camera from Aspect which would allow faster readout from the sensor. This procurement will cover the design and manufacture of a high speed, single board camera based on existing Aspect Systems IP developed for the PImMS project.

Stave Tooling for ALICE ITS Upgrade - The UK is playing a leading role in the ALICE Inner Tracking System (ITS) Upgrade at the LHC at CERN. This is funded by an STFC Project Grant. Daresbury Laboratory is a major production site for the staves of the ITS Upgrade. There are also five other stave construction sites worldwide in Italy, France, Korea, USA and Switzerland. The staves are constructed from CMOS sensors, carbon-fibre support structures, cooling, readout and power buses. The stave construction techniques must be identical across the construction sites. The assembly must be done on identical Coordinate Measuring Machines and using identical tooling which is imperative to maintain continuity of results. This reduces the risk to the project of failure and introduces an important level of contingency in the project planning. The tooling and construction techniques for the CMMs have been developed by INFN Torino in Italy, who are partners in the project. The production tooling will, however, be produced by a single commercial company. This is necessary to ensure the tooling is identical at each production site. The tender exercise for the tooling production was carried out by CERN on behalf of the ALICE project and was awarded to the company SEL in Italy.
