Arun District Council - Mewsbrook Park Play Area Improvements - Mewsbrook Park is a popular seafront park in Littlehampton. It has held a Green Flag Award for 11 years and has strong community involvement through the Mewsbrook Park Community Support Group (MPCSG). Arun District Council’s 2011-2016 Play Strategy identifies the play area as a 'Key District Site' which is recognised as high priority in terms of attracting both large numbers of residents and visitors. The aim for these Key District Sites is that they provide good quality facilities for a broad age range, have sufficient seating and associated facilities; toilets, cafe nearby. This play area conforms to those requirements except that it does not cater for a broad enough age range. At present there is limited appeal to older children with most equipment around 15-20 years old and not conforming to current play equipment standards. There has been no serious investment for many years. Much of the equipment needs replacing. An extensive consultation of park users was carried out by the MPCSG during Love Parks Week and with the wider community by ADC concerning improvements to the play area. A wider choice of equipment and the need for improvements featured heavily in the results. The budget for the project is £70,000 to £75,000 and the Council will only accept bids within this range. Given the details set out in the specification tenderers are to offer a scheme that provides good value for money whilst potentially providing the most satisfying experience for users. Further details are contained within the tender documents.
