Developing animations to explain key concepts of civil protection - The Civil Contingencies Act 2004 aims to establish a consistent level of civil protection activity across the UK. It provides a framework which defines the tasks that certain organisations should be performing, and how they should co-operate. An important part of the emergency planning 'lifecycle' is training those people who may be involved in responding to an emergency (at strategic, tactical and operational levels). Training has traditionally been delivered in-person but there is now a desire to make this available through e-learning. An important determinant in the success of an e-learning package is the ability to engage trainees. It is believed that making the Local Resilience Forum's training available through e-learning will provide the following advantages: • The ability to train a larger number of personnel within Local Resilience Forum organisations • Flexibility in terms of undertaking training (i.e. trainees can choose a time suitable for them) • An opportunity for new employees / appointees to receive training as part of their induction, rather than needing to wait for a course to be made available • A process to engage with trainees after they have completed the e-learning, to offer tailored support or answer any queries they may have • Efficiencies in training administration. A one-off expenditure from the Local Resilience Forum's funding pilot 2021-22 budget will be used to commission the development of a series of training animations to explain key concepts of civil protection.
