SF-6 Evaluation Lifecycle - SF6 is a greenhouse gas which is widely used in the network equipment, e.g., switchgear for insulation and quenching the arc generated when switching or opening electrical circuits. SF6 is leaked from old or malfunctioning of equipment and contributes greatly to global warming. This contract seeks to provide insights and to develop a better understanding of a likely increased use of SF6 in the overall energy sector because of Net Zero transition. It is anticipated that in the absence of reliable and cost-effective alternates to SF6 based equipment, particularly at medium/high voltage levels, new SF6 based equipment (switchgear and insulated cables) are likely to be used in large numbers, in new generation, new connections, new transmission and distribution networks and new interconnectors. Even though network companies are committed to reduce the leakage and use of SF6 equipment. However, the scale of transformation required to reach Net Zero, may hinder the use of SF6 alternates, causing long term environmental issues. The study will seek to fill the knowledge gap and help Ofgem understand how the existing use of SF6 will change with time, because of increased electrification, multiplied offshore wind generation and interconnectors, while working towards Net Zero. There is a need to take a holistic approach (covering all aspects of the energy sector) and an attempt at quantification, potentially through combining different data sets (e.g. energy system data and existing SF6 equipment inventory).

Fundraising and Enterprise Consultancy - Traditionally, the Fundraising & Enterprise (F&E) team has been raising revenue income (c.18% of BFI's charitable income) from a combination of business partnerships, philanthropy, trusts, events and commercial deals, to support largely budget-relieving activities for the BFI London Film Festival; our year-round cultural programme; the upkeep of the collections in the BFI National Archive; and our education activities. In 2023 the BFI published an ambitious 10-year strategy Screen Culture 2033 (SC33). The strategy identifies several long-term objectives, all of which are dependent, in different degrees, on additional income, including fundraised and commercial income. This includes plans to grow the BFI's digital platforms, and to make the BFI National Archive the most open collection of its kind in the world. To support the BFI's ambitions, we have recently agreed a new fundraising strategy, focussed on achieving a step change in our fundraising income over a period of three-years plus. This will be shared with those consultants invited to tender. One of our first priorities is to work with a consultant to review our ways of working across all aspects of our fundraising operation (philanthropy, business partnerships, trusts and fundraising events) and assess and finesse our ambition as we prepare for significant income growth.

Sector Recruitment Analysis - AWARD - This project will deliver an investigation of sector recruitment between 2022 and 2024 to analyse number and types of heritage roles recruited for; and classify and calculate the range of knowledge, skills and experience required for these jobs. This will provide a more comprehensive picture of the job market and the demand for particular skills across key areas of the historic environment sector; which in turn will help the sector prioritise current and future skills needs. The project will focus on the occupational areas of archaeology, conservation and heritage management/advice; in order to compliment the skills needs analysis for heritage construction which has recently been commissioned by Historic England. The aim of this project is to provide an evidence base on the demand for job roles, skills and experience from employers in the historic environment sector over the past year. This will provide baseline evidence in order to undertake a robust skills gap analysis, and prioritise which skills areas need to be further developed across the sector.
