PQ0511 - Digital Skills for Birmingham's Visitor Economy - Birmingham City Council's Visitor Destination Plan 2022-27 was adopted to develop the various facets of the city's tourism offer and improve the experience for visitors at all stages of their journey. Following the success of the 2022 Commonwealth Games, Birmingham has been receiving more interest and visits from domestic and international visitors. It has a strong retail offer and was named the UK's Most Exciting Food Destination by the Good Food Guide 2023. It has been identified by the Council's Tourism Service that the level of expertise in digital marketing is inconsistent across Birmingham's visitor economy. This is particularly evident in the heritage and food sectors where many independent businesses lack the time, money or expertise to communicate effectively with new and existing customers. Business websites vary in quality and compliance with accessibility legislation. Language may also be a barrier for employers working in Birmingham's incredibly diverse food and drink scene. The Council is seeking a suitably qualified and experienced organisation to support the enhancement of digital marketing skills of visitor economy businesses in Birmingham. This will help businesses in the tourism, hospitality, leisure and retail sectors in Birmingham to become more proactive in engaging with new and existing customer and become more resilient in an increasingly competitive market. The organisation should have relevant expertise/ knowledge in delivering training and high-quality materials. The Council is committed to making the city a welcoming and inclusive leisure destination for visitors and residents. To support this, there is a requirement for a consistent level of high-quality content across the digital channels of businesses working in the visitor economy, inspiring customers and providing them with the information to plan their journeys with confidence. The contract will be for the period commencing May 2024 and concluding on 31st January 2025. The Council will be using its free to use e-tendering system (in-tend) for the administration of this procurement process and potential suppliers must register with the system to be able to express an interest. PQ0510 - Further Support for Accessible Tourism - Birmingham City Council would like to support the continued development of accessibility within Birmingham's visitor economy. To deliver this there is a requirement for an accessible tourism specialist with extensive experience of working with different types of visitor economy businesses. Birmingham's Visitor Destination Plan identified that there is a real opportunity for the city's visitor economy to improve accessibility, provide an inclusive welcome and tap into a new and potentially loyal customer base. The Support for Accessible Tourism workstream seeks to improve understanding, practises and customer service amongst businesses to ensure that customers with accessibility needs are welcomed and valued, whether they are residents, tourists or parents who require changing facilities. The Council developed an online 'Accessible Tourism Hub' featuring training webinars, information guides and toolkits to support visitor economy businesses in becoming more accessible. Launched in March 2023, the hub was welcomed by the sector but uptake has been slow with employers facing competing pressures such as the cost of living crisis, rising energy costs and an unstable labour market. The project will also work with accessibility champions to create short-form social media videos aimed at the traditionally time-poor hospitality sector by demonstrating how small changes can make a significant difference to customers with access requirements. A product audit found that the websites of around 90% of Birmingham's restaurants and cafes had no information at all on accessibility, and some of those that did only addressed wheelchair users, ignoring the 80% of disabled people with hidden impairments. The contract will be for the period commencing May 2024 and concluding on 31st January 2025. The Council will be using its free to use e-tendering system (in-tend) for the administration of this procurement process and potential suppliers must register with the system to be able to express an interest. BTA1996 - Enhancing Accessibility Information (Tourism Venues) - Lot 2 Accessibility Features Question Set - VisitEngland (VE) plays a key role in facilitating an accessible and inclusive tourism industry. In support of the Government's ambition for the UK to become the most accessible tourism destination in Europe, VE wishes to improve the holiday planning experience for visitors with a wide range of accessibility requirements by advancing a two-part approach to enhancing accessibility information. To save time and energy when researching a trip, people with accessibility requirements require the ability to filter lists of places to stay and visit based on key accessibility features. They should then be able to access full and detailed access information, in the form of an Accessibility Guide, in order to make the final choice of venue. This requirement is being Procured under the Concession Contracts Regulations 2016 due to the income generation value for Lot 1. Interested suppliers must note that this requirement is divided into the following Lots: Lot 2 ACCESSIBILITY FEATURES QUESTION SET VE requires the supplier to develop a question set that tourism product distributors will use to gather data on the top accessibility features of venues they list, allowing them to display this information as part of venue listings on their websites. As the work comprises two distinct parts, it is divided into two Lots and to ensure the work can advance concurrently, we are seeking a different supplier for each Lot. However, the interdependence of the two Lots requires the two suppliers to work closely to achieve success and ensure consistency for disabled people and their companions. It will be particularly important that the Lot 1 supplier actively inputs into Lot 2 works as a critical partner.

Liverpool City Region Visitor Welcome and Information - The SIF Destination Marketing project board request invitations to tender to develop a gateway design set which can incorporate a digital information display solution to be located at Liverpool John Lennon Airport. This will be a statement piece visitors to Liverpool will be greeted with which will create a striking and lasting impression on visitors to Liverpool City Region. The design should also incorporate digital information to deliver key tourism information, linked or reflective of the DMO website. Visitors should be able to interact with, find information about tourism products, obtain real time transport information, journey planning, attraction ticketing and information to enable them to move easily across the region and seek to explore partner sub-regions beyond the city centre. The bidding contractors will be required to articulate the design, integrated product size, infrastructure, and interoperability. They will also be required to demonstrate the proposed design concepts and digital products to a selection panel and highlight how it could be incorporated. The location for this design will be indoors, in the arrival hall of the airport and it is anticipated that this design feature would house as a minimum of 2 interactive displays but we welcome suggestions and options from suppliers.
