Analysis of Public Response to Pavement Parking Consultation - The Department for Transport (DfT) is currently undertaking a consultation on options to help local authorities tackle the problem of pavement parking. The consultation closes on 22 November 2020. There has been a much higher response that anticipated and we are seeking some assistance in summarising the public response in order that we may publish a timely summary of the consultation following its conclusion. https://www.gov.uk/government/consultations/managing-pavement-parking/pavement-parking-options-for-change Last year the DfT completed an evidence review looking at the problems caused by pavement parking, the effectiveness of current legislation, and the case for reform. The evidence review identified 2 main options for possible legislative change, should this be considered necessary In April 2019, the Transport Select Committee launched an inquiry into pavement parking. Their report was published on 9 September 2019. They recommended that the government consult on the same two options: allowing local authorities to enforce against ad hoc instances of obstructive pavement parking; and a nationwide prohibition on pavement parking across England, similar to the prohibition currently applying in London. Additionally, the DfT is asking whether its work to improve the Traffic Regulation Order process (by which local authorities can introduce local pavement parking restrictions) would be sufficient, alone, to tackle the issue. We are also asking for any alternative ideas that respondents may have. The consultation began on 31st August 2020 and will run for 12 weeks until 22 November 2020. We have received approximately 10,000 replies in the first 6 weeks, although the response rate has tailed off considerably (currently down to approx. 500 per week). We expect the volume of replies from the general public to tail-off further as the consultation draws to a close and the final figure to be around 12,000. We wish to publish a summary of responses within 3 months of the consultation closing but will be unable to process this volume of replies in-house. We are therefore seeking to outsource the processing of replies from individuals. Suppliers will need to register to the Department for Transport's e-Souring Portal https://dft.app.jaggaer.com/web/login.html in order to access the tender pack, and to submit their bids.

IUU Fishing - Evidence Gathering - From the 1st January 2021, the UK will no longer be subject to the EU's Common Fisheries Policy and will be an independent coastal state once again. Previously, the UK had been covered by the EU's Illegal, Unregulated and Unreported (IUU) fishing regulations (1005/2008). Although these regulations are being retained in UK law, the UK has the freedom to set its own policies and regulations on IUU. Crucial to this is a better understanding of how IUU affects the UK to help influence our policy development. Assessments have been made of the impact of IUU fishing at an EU and international level. However, the impact on UK industry has not been quantified. Now that the UK can take responsibility for managing its waters, this is an opportunity to further understand IUU issues at the UK level. Project Aim We want to understand more about the impacts of IUU fishing by identifying and compiling existing assessments of those impacts, particularly as they relate to the UK, and reviewing how those assessments have been made. This will allow us to establish the extent to which the impacts are understood and identify methods that could be used to strengthen the evidence base where necessary.

Mids - EcoSF3 Lot 4 - Church Wilne Fish Passage Phase 1 OBC - The Environment Agency is reviewing options to remove or modify a weir at Church Wilne (NR SK 43800 31600) to improve fish passage and improve the natural function of the River Derwent. The weir is currently redundant operationally due to a new acoustic gauge recently constructed downstream. The weir is a 27m wide Flat V gauging weir with approximately 1m head drop at low flows. This call off contract is to deliver Phase 1 of the works which will take the project through to Outline Business Case (OBC) completion. Phase 2 will then follow on from Phase 1 with a new call off contract to take the project through to detailed design and FBC completion. This includes the handover of all Phase 1 deliverables in accordance to the BIM Execution Plan to enable Phase 2 to commence. The preferred option will need to be determined through a high level cost assessment of the existing short list of options with removal being the optimal fish passage solution. An outline design is to be produced of the preferred option. The successful Contractor will be required to work alongside a construction contractor appointed by the EA for Early Supplier Engagement (ESE) that will assist with the costs assessment and buildability of the preferred option.
