Blidworth Borehole - The Coal Authority invites you to tender for the drilling of a mine water monitoring borehole to assess rising mine water on the surrounding environment at Blidworth. A review of the mine water block by the Coal Authority in 2020 highlighted the potential for elevated mine water levels at Blidworth. Elevated mine water levels could pose a risk to the drinking water aquifers that overlie the mine workings. Therefore, the Coal Authority intend to construct a borehole to intersect flooded underground workings at Blidworth Colliery. The borehole is to allow monitoring of mine water levels that are thought to be representative of the area. The works required is detailed within the Scope and tenderers are advised to read and consider all aspects of the tender documents before preparing your tender submission. These documents can be found on our procurement portal InBye and all queries and submissions must be made through this portal. Guidance on how to access the tender is given within this notice

Mine Heat "Living Lab" - Gateshead Multiple monitoring borehole construction - The Coal Authority invites you to tender for up to five mine water monitoring boreholes in the East Gateshead area (Baltic Quarter), NE England. The boreholes will be drilled by the Coal Authority (by the appointed contractor) on land within the ownership of Gateshead Council. This is to support the development of a "living lab" that will help provide further understanding on the nature of and potential for interactions (thermal and hydrogeological) between two operational mine water heat projects located within the Walker mining block in the Tyne and Wear region. The boreholes that make up the Living Lab will target the High Main and Hutton workings and we are seeking an indicative cost to drill to each horizon. Each borehole will be installed with a number of monitoring sensors in order to collect data on water levels and temperatures, as well as providing access for water samples to be taken. Based on current information, the mine water level (piezometric head) is expected to be approximately 20-25 mbgl. A study of mining information confirmed mine workings present under the site that are thought appropriate for mine water monitoring. This Scope is for the drilling of five monitoring boreholes required to intercept these mine workings on the High Main and Hutton Seams at ca. 50 and 150 mbgl respectively. This tender is being operated through the Coal Authority procurement portal - InBye - see the attached guidance for how to access the tender documents A supervised site visit is being undertaken on 10 August 2022 at 1100hrs - please contact peterkobryn@coal.gov.uk if you wish to register to attend

Drilling Rig Audit Services - Independent drilling rig inspection and audit services prior to commencement of the first deep geothermal well at the Eden Project in February/March 2021. . The drilling rig to be inspected is a Bentec 450mt Eurorig that is being supplied by MND Drilling & Services Inc., based in the Czech Republic, through BDF, based in the UK. At the Eden Project site, the rig will be powered by its own diesel generators. A summary of the rig specification is provided in the tender documents. . The rig is currently stacked in MND's yard in the Czech Republic prior to mobilisation to the UK. The mobilisation to the site at the Eden Project is scheduled to commence in late February 2021, with a view to spudding in early March. . EGL require independent verification of the rig's regulatory compliance, equipment operability, inspection regime and suitability for the proposed drilling contract in the UK. The aim is to ensure that rig machinery and equipment meet all functionality, reliability and serviceability criteria. . The inspection must be conducted professionally in accordance with industry standards that are appropriate to, and acceptable in, the UK, as well as to the specific requirements of EGL. The inspections must be undertaken by person(s) with the relevant and appropriate experience and qualifications. . EGL envisage that the rig audit will comprise four elements: --Documentation review (equipment and systems) to check regulatory compliance; --Inspection of...pection; b) Intrusive inspections of the internal parts of specific equipment, including critical measurements and clearance, to ensure equipment is running within recommended tolerances; c) Inspection and verification of rig equipment and systems to ensure compliance with regulatory/ISO/API standards, other relevant international codes of practice, the equipment manufacturer's specifications and recommendations and good engineering practices; d) Function testing, pressure testing, load testing and insulation resistance checks for all critical equipment to verify operability, as required; e) Verification that the equipment has been kept in a safe, maintained and reliable working condition; f) Verification of interactions and dependencies with other equipment that is critical for functionality; g) Verification that the proper safety devices are correctly installed, testing that these function properly and are correctly calibrated to prevent accidents and equipment failures and damage; h) Verification that the rig is compliant with the contractual requirements as provided by EGL; i) Where Non-Conformance Recommendations (NCR) are identified, recommendation of solutions to ensure correct and satisfactory closure of any NCR; j) Witnessing that all Non-Conformance Recommendations have been correctly and satisfactorily completed and closed; k) Production of a full report, including categorised observations, together with the issue of any required certification.
